The first year the leaves turned red

I grew up around deciduous trees, and even LA had them.

But this is the first year I ever really noticed their red fall leaves, which now seem to be everywhere.

According to the old saying

None are so blind as those who will not see.

What else is in plain sight, yet still beyond my perception?
